Some Random Things we Like About Korea

  • refillable side dishes in restaurants

  • public transportation- inexpensive and efficient

  • being oblivious about work gossip

  • no crime

  • fashion- (it's the 80's here, and we like it)

  • strawberry season

  • being celebrities wherever you go

  • bamboo

  • "nori bangs"- literally translated "singing rooms" may sound hoaky but they're serious fun!

  • still learning new cultural facts every day (today I learned that babies receive gold on their first birthday, then one day they sell it to help pay for college!)

  • discovering new vegetables and fruits

  • "jimje bangs," spas...stay as long as you want for $4 or so

  • no tipping EVER, it's insulting to them

  • hair stylists

  • parties on our roof top

  • sparklers....indoors to celebrate birthdays

  • coffee machines...$.20 in the machine, and there's your dixie-cup full of sweet coffee. These are anywhere you go.

  • we can watch tv on our cell phones

  • crazy flavors of toothpaste (pine, green tea, bamboo, apricot, etc,) and our all natural toothbrushes

  • still discovering new things in our neighborhood after all this time

  • stationary stores....you can't understand until you go

  • listening to Ethan order pizza over the phone in English, with a Korean accent. I plan to catch it on video next time.

  • dinners once a month with our group of foreigners and English-speaking Koreans

  • the flowers that will soon be blooming

  • Korean children...though a million times cuter when they are controling themselves
  • bowing
