Ethan reporting for duty! So after a long week of work, really only putting in 2 days of real work... it's the weekend! Maria and I woke up and did not have any real plans for the day. It is always exciting living for the moment. So unlike Forest we "started walkin" around the city. We did have one goal for the day, to reach the International Center to get some info on Korean speaking classes. Yes we did have a map and looked at it once or twice but we were constantly reminded that we do not, in fact, read Korean. On the way we walked by a Dunkin Donuts, yes that is not a typo, they are here. We had seen them from a far but had not made an effort to go but today since it was right on the way we couldn't resist. They had similar and different things I got a donut but unfortunately they did not have white iced ring with sprinkles. So I had to settle with a fritter and Maria went with a toasted bagel with cream cheese. We found our destination and went in to check it out. Walking down the hall we could hear voices and it was like a foreign language...they were speaking English. It was great to hear other people speaking the same language. We got there right before they were starting a class so we got to sit in on one of the beginner classes. We actually learned some things on our first day. The class is already two weeks in so we might wait and take them later or just keep going and try and catch up, we will see. We did meet some nice Americans there, and we will probably hang out in the future. Afterwards we walked on the main strip and took it all in. It was around lunch time and we happened to be around an Italian restaurant so we went in. I don't think there was one Italian working there, but we got pizza and it was a good change from the kimchi and rice.
Maria and I covered some ground and found some really neat streets to walk down and browse through the windows. There were alot of traditional Korean dress shops that Maria could not get enough of. It is very interesting, the district that we were walking in they had it broken up into different sections. On one street they had all furniture, shelves, chairs, like things what you would see in Pier One but all clustered up and stacked together. They had a power tools section and a pluming section it was very interesting. We walked by one of the river spill ways for the city which has a nice path along it for running or riding a bike. We don't have much furniture in our apartment so we bought a shelf at the clustered Korean Pier one, for our shoes. As you know we take our shoes off when we go into someone's house, even our own. We went with our Italian theme and had spaghetti for dinner. I think after this we are going to head to a Jazz bar and check out the scene.
Sports Report
On a side note congratulations to the Phillys as they are in first place in there division hope we can keep it up going into the playoffs. The curse of the Billy Goat might be broken because the Cubs are in the playoffs. Maria and I went into a man's sports shop and got a soccer ball and he was watching the Mets lose to the Marilin's and he told me that the pitcher for the Marilin's is from Gwanju. It was crazy, I wish we had taken a picture. This guys store was probably 25 feet by 10 feet and he had balls everywhere stacked up. It looked like a snow drift of balls and he had a little path through them all. This morning they had football on I got to watch the redskins giants game but they sped it up and only showed the key plays it was kind of nice. Hope they do that more often. I think that they have something with New York because they always show Yankees games but they do that in the States too so what else is new. Well I think that is the last of the sports update and I hope all is well and give us some comments we like the feedback. We also check our emails all of the time so we love to hear from you.

Sports update: Illinois?? Ouch!
Bowden extends his lead on Joe Pa...
Ethan and Maria,
We love your blog! It is so fun to read about other people's exeriences in this strange country we are calling home!
We enjoyed dinner tonight. See you Saturday!
Hey Ethan and Maria,
I looked at a lot of your pictures and read some postings. Yeah that place looks pretty neat. I love the fact that you can see the mountains from right there in the city.
Some things that I thought were interesting.
1. The hair on the arms: My students (especially black students) act the same way about my arm hair.
2. Taking your shoes off inside: I wish that was a cultural norm here because Kate and I get annoyed with people that trek dirty shoes around in our house.
3. The Hurricane Lilly: That is an awesome flower.
It seems that Kate and I are increasingly busier every day. Responsibilities just seem to pile up the more connections we make and the more involved we get. My work is going better now that I am working a 7am-4pm shift, which means I get to play ultimate on Wednesday evenings again. However, we still have many kids that are fighting often and have little respect for rules or authority. At times I just want to give them a whoopin. Progress is being made in some students, however, and it is seeing the little victories in individual relationships, that keeps me going.
After fencing in the yard, I am currently reinforcing the garage roof with 18 and 20 foot 2X10's. Yeah it takes me about an hour and a half for each one. I'm also awaiting some dirt and topsoil to grade the yard.
I think Kate and I would really be into visiting you guys sometime. I'm not sure if you know your schedules far into the future enough to see what days you would have off. We'll wait awhile anyway until you miss us more.
Take care you guys and we’ll keep praying for you and checking the blog.
Love Ben and Kate
Glad to read everything that is going on! Too bad the Phillies lost to that juggernaut, the Rockies! I think it should be your goal to find a 6000 cc pitchers of beer!
I'll let Mike know I found the blog.
